Cathy L. McDaniels-Wilson, PhD, President

Cathy McDaniels Wilson, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Xavier University. She is the Director of Dialogue at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also in private practice in Columbus, Ohio, where she works extensively with survivors of sexual trauma.

 

David Hayes, PhD, Past-President; Policies & Procedures Committee Co-Chair; Advocacy Committee Chair

David Hayes, PhD, is Past President, APA Council Rep, and Federal Advocacy Coordinator of the association. He has been involved in political advocacy at the state and federal levels since becoming an OPA Board member in 1989.

 

 

Mike Dwyer, PhD, President-Elect

Michael D. Dwyer, PhD, is a Professor of Psychology. He began his postsecondary education at Yale University’s Institute for Far Eastern Languages graduating with a certification in Chinese. Dr. Dwyer earned his BS in Psychology from the University of Houston, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Syracuse University. While at Syracuse he also took a concentration in Clinical Psychology. Postdoctorally, he completed his training through internships and fulfilling his supervised hours in Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio. He is a licensed Counseling Psychologist with an active consultancy on behalf of children and adolescents in schools, treatment centers and detention centers. He currently is developing an early childhood intervention model involving the interaction of early brain development, infant assessment of temperament, and the formation of attachment relationships. He has applied the model in designing interventions for violent children and children with emotional problems in school settings, residential treatment centers, and in detention centers for delinquent children. Recently, he spends most of his professional in two distinct areas: a) time training parents, teachers, psychology majors, detention officers, and the like about the importance of early intervention as the best strategy for developing normal interpersonal skills in children; and b) developing graduate and undergraduate courses on neural plasticity in development and the role of neurological substrates in interpersonal skills development, affect regulation, and violence.

 

 

Jim R. Broyles, PhD, Finance Officer; Finance Committee Chair

Jim Broyles, PhD, is a psychologist in private practice in the Central Ohio area, where he works with individuals, children, and families. Dr. Broyles recieved his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. In addition to his work as a clinician, he also presents workshops and teaching sessions for professionals on how to counsel young people and families on LGBT issues. Dr. Broyles has a background as both a teacher and school psychologist, and has seved as past chairperson of OPA's LGBT Task Force.

 

 

 

Suzanne S. LeSure, PhD, APA Council Representative

Dr. Suzanne LeSure is a psychologist with more than 25 years of experience with children, adolescents, adults and families. Her professional career has included experience in community mental health, in hospital based practice, in private practice and in teaching other professionals. She is the managing partner of Cornerstone Psychological Services and co-director/founder of Cornerstone Wellness Center. In addition, she directs the Collaborative Family Treatment Program, a multi-agency program developed to provide integrated intervention for families who have experienced incest. Dr. LeSure also is an assistant professor of psychology and psychiatry at Northeast Ohio College of Medicine. She is a member of the medical staff of Medina General Hospital and is chair of the department of psychology and psychiatry. She is trained in both Red Cross and CISM disaster response models and is an active member of Medina General Hospital’s disaster response team.

Dr. LeSure has been deeply committed to psychology’s professional organizations to their role in advocacy and in maintaining professional standards. She is the founder and past president of the Medina County Mental Health Professional Association, and has been active in the Ohio Psychological Association, serving as president, advocacy chair, and currently the APA Council Representative. She received the Karl Heiser Award from the American Psychological Association for her advocacy work in 2001.

Richard Ashbrook, PhD, Ethics Committee Chair

Dr. Richard M. Ashbrook earned his B.S. from the University of Maryland, his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and M.F.A. (English/Creative Writing) from The Ohio State University. He completed his internship at the University of Rochester's School of Medicine & Dentistry, Strong Memorial Hospital, and did additional post-doctoral training in Pediatric and Health Psychology. Since 1986, Dr. Ashbrook has been on the faculty of Capital University (Columbus, OH) where he is a Professor of Psychology and Interim Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, and former Chair of the Behavioral Sciences Department. Dr. Ashbrook is a registrant of the National Health Service Providers of Psychology, a member of the American Psychological Association, APA’s Division of Clinical Psychology, the Ohio Psychological Association and the Central Ohio Psychological Association. Dr. Ashbrook holds medical staff privileges at OhioHealth’s Grady Memorial Hospital, where he also serves as Vice Chair of the Department of Psychology. Dr. Ashbrook is the chief executive officer of Behavioral Science Specialists, LLC – a behavioral health and medical consulting company specializing in forensic assessment, outsourced services to non-profit and governmental agencies, and action research. Dr. Ashbrook is licensed to practice psychology in Ohio and North Carolina.

 

James J. Brush, PhD, Education Committee Chair

Dr. James Brush is a child and adolescent psychologist in private practice in Cincinnati. He has been in practice for 24 years. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1983. He trained at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He has worked extensively in inpatient and outpatient settings with children and adolescents. He has been the president of the Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychology and is a past president of the Ohio Psychological Association. 

 

 

Colin H. Christensen, PhD, Akron Area Professional Psychologists (AAPP) Representative

Colin Christensen, PhD, is a psychologist with Fordyce and Associates in Canton. He specializes in working with children, adolescents and their families. Dr. Christensen earned his BS from Texas Wesleyan University and his MA and PhD from the University of Akron. In addition to being the Akron Area Professional Psychologists representative to the OPA Board, he also is a member of the OPA Diversity Committee and the OPA Membership Committee.

 

 

Kenneth P. Drude, PhD, Membership Committee Chair

Kenneth P. Drude, PhD, provides private practice clinical services in the Dayton, Ohio area and has worked in clinical and management positions in a number of primarily public settings. His long time interest in the Internet has included a passion for finding low or no cost information resources and as a result has become familiar with the availability of psychological literature accessible online. Dr. Drude is currently the Membership Committee Chair, but is also a past Communications and Technology Chair, a Past President and a Past Finance Officer for OPA.

 

 

Nabil Hassan El-Ghoroury, PhD, Public Education Coordinator Liaison

Nabil Hassan El-Ghoroury, Ph.D., is a clinical and pediatric psychologist at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland, OH. He also holds a faculty appointment as Senior Instructor of Pediatrics at Case School of Medicine. His undergraduate education was completed at UCLA, and his doctorate in Clinical Psychology was completed at SUNY Binghamton. In addition to assessment and treatment of children and adolescents, he trains pediatric residents and psychology graduate students. As a bilingual (English and Spanish) psychologist, he is also the primary psychologist for the Cleveland Hispanic Child and Adolescent Clinic, a primary care clinic for Spanish-speaking families. He is very active in the American Psychological Association, where he is currently serving on the Board of Professional Affairs (2006-2008) and the Task Force to Revise the APA Model Act for State Licensure of Psychologists. He recently completed a term on the Committee on Early Career Psychologists (2005-2006), where he also served as chair. He was also on the Ethics Code Revision Task Force (1999-2002). For the Ohio Psychological Association, he is currently serving as the Public Education Coordinator. He has been interviewed by local news (Fox and ABC in Cleveland) and national networks (Univision, interview in Spanish) on children’s mental health issues. His interests include autism spectrum disorders and mental health issues of Hispanic children and adolescents.

 

Catherine A. Gaw, PsyD, Cleveland Psychological Association (CPA) Representative

Catherine A. Gaw, PsyD, is currently the Clinical Child Psychologist at the Cleveland Clinic family health center in Willoughby Hills. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the School of Professional Psychology at Wright State University in 1988 after completing her internship at Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison, WI. Dr. Gaw practiced full-time on the Children's Treatment Unit at MMHI and in a part-time private practice at Midwest Center for Human Services for 11 years. In addition, she served as Clinical Assistant Professor to the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Clinical Consultant to the Clinical Psychology Training program at the University of Wisconsin, she was a member of OPA, the National Register for Health Service Providers in Psychology, the Wisconsin Psychological Association and served on the Board of Governors for the Wisconsin Society of Clinical and Consulting Psychologists. Dr. Gaw has been staff at the Cleveland Clinic since 1999 and has participated on the Board of Trustees for the Cleveland Psychological Association as the Interprofessional Relations Committee Chairperson and the representative to the Ohio Psychological Association. She participates on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Psychological Association as the representative from CPA and serves on the Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) Committee and the Public Education Campaign Committee. Dr. Gaw specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents and families, focusing on issues related to severe emotional and behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, sequela of trauma and abuse, adjustment to life stressors and parenting issues.

 

 

Jessica Grayson, MS, Ohio Psychological Association of Graduate Students (OPAGS) Representative

Jess Grayson is a third year clinical psychology graduate student specializing in children and adolescents at Ohio University. Her research interests include teacher burnout, parenting styles and adolescent risk and resilience. She also works with children at a local Alternative High School and inpatient adolescent substance-abuse treatment facility. Jess has been involved with OPAGS for three years, and attended the APA State Leadership Conference and the OPA Legislative Day as an advocate for OPA and mental health services in Ohio.

 

 

Kathleen T. Heinlen, PhD, Communication/Technology Committee Chair

Ky Heinlen is in private practice and works with adolescents and their families. In addition, she works as an adjunct faculty for Cleveland State University and does contract work for the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center. Her areas of clinical interest include trauma and building resilience. She also has published several articles and presented on the topic of the use of technology in clinical practice. She has been on the Communications and Technology Committee for the last several years and is serving as chairperson this year.

 

 

Terry Imar, MA, Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) Committee Chair

Terry Imar, MA, received his graduate degree from Kent State University in 1971 and has been in practice in Ohio since 1975. Prior to entering full-time private practice in 1981, he was Clinical Director of North Central Mental Health Center in Columbus. He has previously chaired OPA’s Continuing Education Committee and OPA’s Ethics Committee. Mr. Imar is in general practice, working with adults, adolescents, and children. He is a member of the medical staff of Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, where he is Chief of the Psychology service.

 

 

Kurt Jensen, PsyD, Disaster Response Network Task Force Chair

Kurt Jensen, PsyD, is a consulting psychologist who specializes in employee selection, leadership coaching, and organizational development. Since 1989, Dr. Jensen has worked with individuals and organizations recovering from traumatic events, both natural and man-made. He is a Past President of the Cleveland Psychological Association and has served as Chairperson for OPA’s Legislative, Marketing, and Public Information Committees in years past. Dr. Jensen has worked with the American Red Cross since 1992, serving as volunteer Chair of Mental Health Services for the Cleveland Chapter for the past 3 years. He has trained hundreds of psychologists, physicians, and other professionals in disaster-related topics, and currently works with businesses to develop policies and procedures related to disaster preparedness and recovery.

 

 

 

Vanessa K. Jensen, PsyD, Planning & Development Committee Chair; Policies & Procedures Committee Co-Chair

Vanessa K. Jensen, PsyD, graduated from Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in 1986, with specialty training in pediatric psychology. She has been the Head of Pediatric Psychology at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation since 1990 where she serves as psychologist, administrator, supervisor, mentor, faculty, and researcher. Dr. Jensen has been a member of the OPA Board of Trustees since 1987, has chaired several committees, is a Past President (2000-2003) and has also previously served as Finance Officer (1992-1995). Much of her work in OPA has focused on financial policy and management and long-range planning for the organization. Dr. Jensen is married to fellow psychologist Dr. Kurt Jensen and has two daughters, Rachel and Lauren.

 

 

Mary Miller Lewis, PhD, Public Interest Committee Co-Chair

Mary M. Lewis, PhD is a Psychologist with Senior Life Consultants, Inc. in Columbus, OH. She graduated from the University of Akron in 2001 with a degree in Counseling Psychology and a graduate certificate in Gerontology. She currently provides mental health services in long-term care and retirement communities throughout central Ohio. Dr. Lewis is also adjunct faculty at Columbus State Community College and is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Gerontological Society of America, and Psychologists in Long Term Care (PLTC). She currently serves as membership coordinator for PLTC and is a member of their Public Policy Committee. She has been working with older adults for 15 years and has been involved in the mental health field for over 10 years.

 

 

Kathleen A. Mack, PsyD, Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychologists (CAPP) Representative

Kathleen Mack, PhD, graduated from the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in 1986. She did her internship at the University of Cincinnati and her post-doctoral training in neuropsychology at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She has been a therapist since she earned her Master's in 1978 working in private practice, juvenile court, and physical medicine rehabilitation settings. Currently Dr. Mack is in private practice in Cincinnati. She is a member of APA, OPA, the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and the Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychology. She is the Ethics chair for OPA and for CAPP. She holds diplomate status with the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists.

 

 

 

John Marazita, PhD, Science Committee Chair

John M. Marazita, PhD, is a professor of psychology at Ohio Dominican University. Dr. Marazita earned his BA from the University of Akron and his MA and PhD from Kent State University in experimental psychology with a specialization in cognitive development. Over the course of his studies he was elected to membership in various honorary organizations including Psi Chi, Phi Sigma Alpha, and Sigma Xi and he is currently a member of the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Research in Child Development. His research addresses metacognitive contributions to young children’s language and memory development, and more recently, the auditory processing of music and language. Over the past decade, he has given conference presentations and has published a number of coauthored book chapters and articles in the journals Child Development, Developmental Psychology, Journal of Experimental Child Psychology and the Journal of Child Language on these topics. In addition to studying young children’s development, Dr. Marazita is interested in the application of theory and research in cognitive psychology to student learning and classroom technology. At ODU he supervises undergraduate research and he serves as the psychology club advisor and advisor to The Experimentalists, a group of students interested in furthering the science of psychology. Dr. Marazita teaches child and adolescent development, adult development and aging, applied cognitive psychology, cognitive processes, a senior capstone seminar on current issues in the discipline, and introduction to psychology. Dr. Marazita resides in Columbus with his wife and two young daughters.

 

 

Mary Morgillo, PhD, Toledo Area Academy of Professional Psychologists (TAAPP) Representative

Mary Morgillo, PhD, ABMPP, is the OPA Representative for the Toledo Area Academy of Professional Psychologists (TAAPP). She attended the University of Toledo where she received her BEd in 1970, MEd in 1974 and PhD in 1980. She obtained her psychodiagnostic certification from Boston College, Massachusetts. She completed her post-doctorate studies at Baylor University, Texas, and The Menninger Institute. She has taught psychology courses and presented numerous seminars to health care professionals. Dr. Morgillo was in private practice for more than 20 years before retiring in May 2004. She is a member of the physician advocacy committee at St. Vincent Medical Center. Dr. Morgillo has three children, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She belongs to numerous professional organizations (including the American Psychological Association (APA)) and is a life member of the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists and Psychodiagnosticians, and the New York Academy of Sciences.

 

Alice Randolph, EdD, M.S. Clinical Psychopharmacology, RxP Task Force Chair; Federal Advocacy Liaison

Alice H. Randolph, EdD, M.S. Clinical Psychopharmacology, is a psychologist who owns Psychological Transitions. This is a group practice that provides psychological services to residents of nursing homes and assisted living programs. She is an accomplished speaker and is recognized for her work in Medicare regulations and compliance. She has been a member of the Ohio Psychological Association Board of Directors since 1997, chairing the State Federal Committee before taking on her role as President.

 

Lynn Rapin, PhD, Personnel Committee Chair

Dr. Lynn Rapin is counseling and consulting psychologist practicing in Cincinnati. Lynn has served as the chair of the Personnel Committee for seven of the last eight years, providing volunteer consultation to the OPA executive director and staff. Lynn’s work with OPA has focused on developing strengths of the staff to maximize work potential within a positive work environment. Dr. Rapin is 2007 president of APA Div 49: Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy and is a past president of the Association for Specialists in Group Work, a Division of the American Counseling Association. In her consulting practice, Dr. Rapin specializes in longer-term organization interventions with social service agencies and non-profit organizations. In her private practice, Dr. Rapin works with adults and adolescents. Dr. Rapin previously served as OPA Insurance Committee co-chair.

 

 

Lynne Rustad, PhD, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Subcommittee Chair

Lynne C. Rustad, PhD, was a research biologist before entering the graduate program at Case Western Reserve University from which she received her doctorate in clinical psychology in 1975. She obtained specialty training in the emerging field of Behavioral Medicine on the Spinal Cord Injury Unit of Cleveland VA Medical Center where she collaborated in the development of an innovative group program in sex re-education and counseling for cord-injured people. As a staff member, after moving from the SCI Unit to Cardiology Section, she continued for several years to provide psychological services to the medical center Sex Dysfunction Clinic and served on the Task Force on Sex and Disability of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. Throughout her career her clinical, training and research focus has been on the psychosocial and psychophysiologic aspects of medical illness. She provided consultation to acute and intensive care units and the HIV-AIDS program; was a member of the heart, liver and lung transplant teams and the Critical Care Committee and developed outpatient group programs in cardiac rehabilitation and congestive heart failure. Concerned about the growing impact of medical technology on seriously ill patients and their families, Dr. Rustad obtained training in bioethics and, in 1987, co-founded the Cleveland VA Bioethics Committee, serving as Chair of the evolving program and Chief of the Bioethics Consultation Team until her VA retirement in 2005. Prior to that retirement, she was a member of the Headquarters working group that revised the VA national end-of-life policy. Dr. Rustad was also a founding member of the Bioethics Network of Ohio, serving on the BENO Board and chairing the Research Committee for many years.

 

 

Richard C. Rynearson, PhD, BOPN Liaison

Richard Rynearson, PhD, is a clinical psychologist who provides counseling to adolescents and adults (16 years and older) in the areas of stress management, depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, personality disorders, sexual abuse and marital problems. Other areas of practice include forensic evaluation/expert testimony, testing and evaluation of safety forces, crisis intervention/debriefing, biofeedback and consultation to businesses and government.

Dr. Rynearson is a PhD graduate of Case Western Reserve University and is currently a member of the American and Ohio Psychological Associations, the Association of the Advancement of Behavior Therapy, the Biofeedback Society of America, the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and the International Critical Incident & Stress Foundation. He is Chairperson of the Continuing Education Committee for the Ohio Psychological Association and serves on the Board of Trustees. Dr. Rynearson has provided psychological services to public safety forces for more than 25 years.

 

 

Thomas P. Swales, PhD, Insurance Committee Chair

Thomas P. Swales, PhD, ABPP is Director of the Psychological Assessment Center at MetroHealth Medical Center, and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology and Pediatrics at the Case Western Reserve University. He is Board-certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. Dr. Swales has served as President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Cleveland Psychological Association.

Craig S. Travis, PhD, Professional Practice Committee Chair

Craig S. Travis, PhD, is Director of Behavioral Sciences for the Mount Carmel Family Practice Residency in Columbus, Ohio. He trains family physicians in understanding behavioral and psychological issues in medicine and health. He is also a clinical faculty in the Family Medicine Department in the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University and an adjunct faculty at the University of Dayton. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, American Counseling Association, and the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine. Dr. Travis has led numerous corporate and public presentations in health psychology. He has 15 years of experience in private practice, psychiatric inpatient, community agency, and medical environments.

 

Erica S. White, PhD, Diversity Committee Chair

Erica Stovall White, PhD, is an assistant professor in the department of psychology at Notre Dame College in South Euclid. In addition, she is in private practice in Shaker Heights where she works with adolescents and adults. Dr. White earned her BA in psychology from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Her interest in clinical psychology flourished while she earned her masters and PhD from the University of Michigan. She completed her post doctoral residency at Emory University. Dr. White has a strong interest in mentoring and diversity.
