The Public Sector Psychologist Special
Interest Group is an innovative special interest group within the Ohio
Psychological Association (OPA) that serves to accentuate the importance of
advocacy for quality mental health services for populations experiencing
health disparity in the state of Ohio.
As Public Sector Psychologists of OPA,
we strive to assist Ohio’s efforts to better serve people with mental
illnesses and emotional disorders with aspirations of a system that
addresses mental illnesses with the same urgency as other medical problems
to ensure the strength of prevention and recovery.
Mission Statement for Public Sector
Psychologist Special Interest Group
To monitor and advocate for issues that assist with the transformation of
Ohio’s mental health system that ensures partnership with primary care
physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, consumers and family members in an
effort to obtain and sustain recovery.
Purpose of the Public Sector
Psychologist Special Interest Group
To provide an innovative avenue that speaks directly to the Ohio
Psychological Association (OPA) Board in an effort to promote advocacy for a
mental health care system aimed at recovery- and resiliency-oriented
services for populations experiencing health disparity in the state of Ohio.
2006-07 Goals
- Promoting the role of psychologists in the provision of
Ohio’s transformation of service systems to address mental health issues.
- Market psychologists’ role in recovery- and resiliency-
oriented services to community members of diverse backgrounds struggling
with issues related to severe mental illness and health disparity.
- Collaborate with public education/public interest to
encourage community involvement in organizations that support those
experiencing health disparity.
- Increase Public Sector Special Interest Group
membership through advertisement within OPA and our professional
communities to attract and retain creative, dynamic, engaged, and
representative group membership.
- Advocate for the quality of care that is beneficial for
populations experiencing health disparity that is specified under the
parity act.
Long-term Goal by 2010
- To have psychology identified as the cornerstone for
public sector organizations in Ohio that promotes the recovery and
resiliency models of wellness.
