Welcome to the homepage for the Ohio Psychological
Association’s Public Interest Committee. Below you will find the mission statement for the committee, officially
approved by the OPA Board of Directors on November 13, 2004.
As our committee continues to grow we will update our current activities and
priorities here. If you are interested in learning more about the Public
Interest Committee and might like to serve as a member, please contact the
Committee Chair. We welcome your participation.
Mission Statement
The Public Interest Committee of the Ohio Psychological Association has as
its primary goals:
- the dissemination of reliable information concerning
the science and practice of psychology to the general public;
- the
promotion of psychological care as general health care, to destigmatize
mental illness diagnoses and the utilization of mental health services;
- the promotion of healthy behaviors on both individual and societal levels;
- the facilitation of accessible psychological care to those in need.
Priorities for the 2006-2007 operating
year:
- Helping people understand psychology’s role in mental
health and for overall positive well-being.
- Promoting continued funding for mental health services
in the State of Ohio budget.
- Maintaining and improving resources for public
consumption on the OPA website.
- Working together with OPA as a whole to recognize
psychologists who have contributed their expertise and service
significantly to the cause of public interest.
We can use your help currently:
Please submit your recommendations for reliable,
user-friendly self-help resources in your topic(s) of expertise to
Dr. Mary Miller Lewis to be
reviewed by the Public Interest Committee for addition to the Self-Help
Resource list. Please include the full reference for books. It would also be
very helpful if you would write just a sentence or two about why you
recommend the particular resource (that is, how do you find it helpful?).
Thank you!
