Harvey Kayne, PhD, received the Public Sector
Psychologist of the Year Award. He has been involved with community
mental health programs from his internship days until present—a span of some
37 years. Dr. Kayne has been the full-time clinical director at D&E
Counseling Center in Youngstown since 1994, and has been associated with the
contract agency of the Mahoning County Mental Health Board since 1978.

Kenneth Drude, PhD, was
honored with the Award of Excellence for educating psychologists
about technology. Dr. Drude posts regularly on the OPA listserv to keep
members educated about current trends in technology, and shows them where to
find valuable psychology resources on the web. Dr. Drude also serves as
OPA’s Communications and Technology Chair. In this role, he has spearheaded
an effort to develop telepsychology guidelines for psychologists who wish to
use the computer or phone to provide therapy.

Sherry Dinner, PhD, was given the Achievement
Award for Public Interest for organizing a mental health day event. The
program included a booth with information and depression screenings, and
seven psychologists presented programs on a variety of topics from healthy
eating attitudes to the importance of wearing helmets for head injury
safety.

Janet Schultz, PhD, was
the recipient of the Outstanding Psychologist Award for her work with
graduate students and her illustrious career. Dr. Janet Schultz has excelled
as a clinician, teacher, scholar and mentor to a generation of new
psychologists. She is currently the director of training at Xavier
University’s new PsyD program. Over the past nine years, she has been
providing a special service for OPA. She strongly encourages the Xavier
University doctoral students to get involved in organized psychology and in
OPAGS, the graduate student arm of OPA.
James A. Mulick, PhD, received the Lifetime
Achievement by a Psychologist for a lifetime of outstanding
contributions in the field of mental retardation. Dr. Mulick, has received a
special recognition award for his contributions as a founding and series
editor of the magazine “Transitions in Mental Retardation,” as a scientist
in the field of mental retardation and developmental disabilities, and as a
leader in the Northeast Region X of the American Association on Mental
Retardation. Dr. Mulick has published over 110 scholarly and/or peer
reviewed publications -- including books that are gold standards in the
field -- and has made over 100 presentations to local, national and regional
meetings and groups.

Encarnacion Pyle, a
Columbus Dispatch reporter, was given the Achievement in Public
Information Award for her reporting on mental health issues. She has
written many articles exposing the problems experienced by Ohio’s families
in trying to get much-needed treatment for their loved ones and also has
covered the injustice that exists in Ohio’s insurance laws and has
demonstrated that treatment works by spotlighting success stories.

The OPA Mandatory Continuing Education Committee
was honored the Outstanding Committee of the Year for their work this
past biennium in helping psychologists get their licenses. This committee is
comprised of chair Terry Imar, MA, Cathy Gaw, PsyD, David Doane, PhD, Henry

contributions to OPA and the field of psychology. In addition to his private
practice in Powell, Mr. Imar chairs OPA’s Mandatory Continuing Education
Committee. He’s also a member of OPA’s Ethics, Education and Communications
and Technology Committee. On top of all his OPA duties, Mr. Imar is a member
of the medical staff of Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, where he is
chief of psychology services and is an on-call crisis intervention
