Back to OPA Membership

Dear Colleague,

Prompt pay, managed care, prescriptive authority, psychologist training, practice guidelines, diversity… These are the issues that OPA, as YOUR state psychological association, can monitor, address, and fight for on a daily basis, allowing you to be a more effective, efficient, and responsible professional. As has been said of another organization, "membership has its advantages." Membership in OPA will give you access to OPA's collective experience, resources, and services, and strengthen OPA at the same time.

While OPA is nationally recognized as one of the leading state psychological associations and is well represented and well connected with our national association (APA), it is increasingly clear that the majority of issues that directly affect Ohio Psychologists are at the state and local levels. In Ohio, OPA is a leader at the legislative level in nearly all areas of health, mental health, behavior, and social policy. We are at the table for discussion of major issues and can communicate the issues and needs of our members through our individual and collective efforts with like-minded organizations. In short, OPA can communicate YOUR needs and advocate for you and for our profession.

OPA also has, as part of its organizational legacy, a core belief in the value of people and relationships. In a profession that by design is often private and even isolated, your membership in OPA can be a vehicle for collegial dialogue, debate, and long-lasting friendships. Our annual conventions, Board and committee activities, and focus on state and local issues provide forums for such interactions.

It is gratifying to be involved with an organization that is fluid, responsive, and ready to meet the needs of its members, whether day to day questions such as insurance and practice management or more global issues such as threats to our profession. With your help, OPA will continue to respond to the changes in our profession and our society, and address the difficult and sometimes controversial issues of our times.

I'm glad you are interested in joining the ranks of Ohio psychologists who are part of OPA. The staff, officers, and members of the Board of Directors are here to be of assistance to our members. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you to benefit Ohio psychologists!

Kenneth Drude, Ph.D.
