Anthem/Magellan Transition Information

Those of you who are Anthem providers are no doubt aware that effective April 1, 2007, Anthem will be managing its own behavioral health networks, taking this back from Magellan. Anthem has sent letters to its panel lists to advise of this process.
On the surface it appears that this will be a seamless change.
- 1. Magellan phone numbers that you are used to using will
be switched to Anthem by April 1. If you call Anthem after April 1 with a
question about a service provided prior to April 1, the call will be
transferred to Magellan.
- Magellan will tell you that claims for services provided on
and after April 1, 2007 must be sent to Anthem, Post Office Box 37010,
Louisville, KY 40233-7010. If you do send claims for services provided on and
after April 1 to Magellan, they will deny the claim and return it to you with
instructions to send it to Anthem.
This question of what address to use will no doubt be a source of confusion. There are actually three addresses: one for KY, one for OH and one for IN. If any of the three addresses are used Anthem has confirmed that the claim will reach its proper destination.
You will probably hear one of any of the three addresses depending on who you talk to. They are all good.

Louisville, KY 40233-7180Some of you have inquired about how to handle Federal Claims. Here is what we have been told:
- if the insured is in Anthem's PPO plan, you should continue to use the PO Box that you currently use
- if the insured is an FEP HMO Member, you can use any of the three addresses above.
We strongly suggest that you carefully track your 30/60/90 day reports for both Anthem and Magellan. It may be that claims will neither be returned nor forwarded but ....."lost in space".
- Anthem will honor any authorizations for service that
Magellan has issued.
- Credentialing for Anthem panels will be through Anthem. NOTE: If you are on Magellan Medicaid panels, that credentialing will go through Magellan. This could be a source of confusion.
