The scientist-practitioner model in
psychology is the “hallmark of our discipline, providing us with the strong
undergirding of research and scholarship for the applications of practice.
We must continue to strive for the best ways to understand and implement
such a model.” (Carter, 2002, pp. 1285)
The Journal of Clinical Psychology
Vol. 58 (10) contains a series of articles on how to integrate science and
practice. This journal is available online (through a subscription) at
www.interscience.wiley.com.
Are you a practitioner that has
successfully incorporated science into your practice? Share your ideas with
others! Send an email to
the OPA Science Committee describing how
you did it and whether you give us permission to post your idea.
Why go it alone? If you are interested
in pooling resources and conducting research with someone else, visit our
Research Collaboration page. Here you can
submit information to list yourself as a potential collaborator as well as
find others who are similarly interested. It’s a great way to link up with a
practitioner or academician and for students to get research experience!
For more information on how to conduct
research, visit our Research Resources page.
