The 129th General Assembly has been a moving target–sometimes literally. There were a number of concealed carry gun bills introduced and passed. In addition, 571 bills were introduced in the House and 356 were introduced in the Senate. As of June 22, 2012, 127 bills passed both chambers and were signed by the Governor. Twenty one bills appear on OPA’s Bill Box. The ones listed are chosen because of their significance to mental health and psychology. Unfortunately, many worthy bills are not included, because they do not appear to have much “juice” behind them and probably won’t move through the process. Any bill that does not pass both chambers by the end of this General Assembly (which ends when in December, 2012) must be reintroduced in the 130th General Assembly which begins in January 2013. The state legislators who are elected this November will be sworn in and begin deliberations by mid-January. To see what bills have been highlighted by OPA, view the Bill Box.
