Greater Good: Dr. David Krauss

Greater Good: Psychologists Giving Back
Taking it to the Bank with Dr. David Krauss

By: Allen McConnell, MS

KraussMost members of the Ohio Psychological Association may recognize Dr. David Krauss from his professional career as a licensed clinical psychologist. He has been in private practice since 1983 and has consulted with several nursing homes in the greater Cleveland area for the past 20 years. However, Dr. David Krauss is also a renowned song writer and musician and has shared his gift of music both locally and nationally since the 1970s. His lyrics and musical performances may be found on professional recordings of several bands, including Tiny Alice and The Blue Drivers.

After observing the economic climate and its impact on his community, Dr. Krauss was inspired to collaborate with other professional musicians in order to assist individuals in need. His latest musical endeavor is a compilation album dedicated to benefiting the Cleveland Food Bank. In collaboration with Abdyos Studio, Dr. Krauss recruited 45 musicians from the Cleveland area to record their interpretation of songs he had previously written. Each musician willingly volunteered time to enter the studio and contribute their musical talents with the promise that their efforts would help ensure that food was available for those in the community that were hungry. The final result was a recording of 12 songs representing various genres of music that ranged from classic rock to blues to reggae to bluegrass. In addition to writing the lyrics, Dr. Krauss contributed to the album by performing a harmonica solo on each song and providing vocals for a select number of tracks. His goal for the project was to not only benefit the Cleveland Foodbank but to also promote and recognize other Cleveland musicians for their talents and involvement with this benefit album.

All proceeds of the album, “Taking It To The Bank,” go directly to the Cleveland Foodbank. Each album sold will provide between 16 to 30 meals that the Foodbank can use to feed those in need. Currently, album sales have provided a total of 5,000 meals to individuals in need. Dr. Krauss is confident that this project will eventually reach his goal of providing at least 20,000 meals to Cleveland residents that are struggling economically to provide food for their family. Bono, the lead singer from U2, once stated, “music can change the world because it can change people.” Dr. Krauss is using his musical gifts to change his community for the better!
