Psychologists Retired of Ohio (PROs)

With the median age of OPA members being 59, retirement issues are significant for many OPA members. The Psychologists Retired of Ohio (PROs) was formed by OPA in 2007 to assist psychologists before, during, and after retirement. The PRO’s have developed surveys of psychologists’ needs and planned their efforts to address these. CE programs at OPA Conventions were developed to inform members about professional, ethical, financial, and personal issues faced during retirement. PRO’s members contribute relevant articles to monthly OPA publications and develop resources for psychologists considering retirement. PRO’s strive to support each other through important developmental stages and to give back to the profession. This group meets quarterly in Columbus at the OPA office, and is open to anyone, retired or not, who has an interest in aging and retirement issues. Contact Dr. Bobbie Celeste for more information.

Many PROs meetings feature a special guest speaker. Past speakers include:

  • Dr. Roger Blashfield: OPA’s membership report-The aging of OPA
  • Dr. Margie Kukor: Red Cross mental health disaster assistance
  • Dr. Cathy McDaniels Wilson: OPA goals & how OPA can help retiring psychologists
  • Dr. Mary Lewis: Memory and the ways to prevent dementia
  • Rep. Ted Celeste: Mental health legislation at the Statehouse
  • Ms. Lindsay Orchowski: Psychologists portrayal in the media

The PROs group was featured in the “National Psychologist.” Read the complete article here
