The
Ohio Psychological Association invites program proposals for the 2010 Annual Convention to be held Nov. 10-12 at the Crowne Plaza North, Columbus. This year’s Convention will explore the topic “Psychology: Science, Practice and Advocacy in the Decade Ahead."
Workshop Selection
OPA’s
Education Committee strives to offer a variety of programs including workshops, discussions and current research and poster presentations. Equal consideration is given to all submissions. The Committee is especially seeking advanced level programming. The Committee will choose some ethics-based programs and courses that appeal to office staff and business managers, as well as psychologists.
Diversity and Multiculturalism
To stay consistent with OPA’s commitment to diversity and multiculturalism, we advocate proposals that reflect an appreciation and awareness of these issues. Presenters are asked to explain how their workshop addresses and/or integrates diversity issues into the topic.
Interaction and Handouts
OPA also supports programs that allow for the interaction of participants and address cutting edge research or create discussion or thought. Presenters are required to use handouts and—where appropriate—use interactive training techniques.
Ethics Requirement
For the ethics component of the application, programs that qualify for ethics credit include:
- Risk Management Issues
- Confidentiality
- Ethics of Supervision
- Boundaries
- HIPAA Requirements
- Dual Relationships
- Professional Impairment
- Financial Ethics
- Limits and Expansion of Competencies
- Representation of Training and Credentialing
- Specific ethical principles listed in the APA ethical principles of psychologists and code of conduct manual
- Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct, Section 4732.17.
Learning Objectives
Learning objectives are statements that clearly describe what the attendee will know or be able to do as a result of having attended this program.
They must:
- be observable and measurable;
- focus on the learner; and
- contain action verbs that describe measurable behaviors.
Verbs to avoid when writing learning objectives:
- know, understand
- learn, appreciate
- become aware of, become familiar with
Workshops wanting ethics credit must have associated learning objectives that clearly indicate a focus on ethics.
