Legal and Ethical Aspects of Disaster Mental Health with Drs. Bob Stinson and Kay Levine at Maryhaven. Attendees will earn 3 CE in ethics.
The evolving field of disaster mental health does not yet have a clear framework for the legal and ethical responsibilities that are frequently assumed by those who volunteer. Definitions are imprecise and numerous issues of informed consent, confidentiality, record keeping, licensure and relevant treatment options abound. This workshop will identify some of these key issues, how to understand them, and offer suggestions for how to think critically about clinical/ethical/legal conundrums in post-disaster settings.
Participants will learn to:
• Identify common ethical dilemmas within the field of disaster mental health
• Understand key aspects of ethical principles within the field generally, including informed consent, confidentiality, and record keeping
• Develop a model by which to solve ethics dilemmas within the field of disaster mental health
