Description: Compulsive hair pulling and body focused repetitive behaviors affect millions, yet little is known of this hidden problem. This workshop will examine the complex nature of compulsive hair pulling and body focused repetitive behaviors. It will also provide participants with greater awareness in how to design an effective treatment plan and apply strategies that can help one resist the powerful urge to pull. The course will also briefly cover how the DSM-5 will address hair pulling.
Instructor: Amy Burzinski, LISW-S. Amy Burzinski is a licensed clinical social worker who has been a school counselor at Bellefaire since 2003. She has an MSW and a certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. She has also received training in body focused repetitive disorders from The Professional Training Institute of the Trichotillomania Learning Center. Over the past two decades Amy has worked with individuals and families affected by bullying, domestic violence, substance abuse, depression, and anxiety. Amy regularly provides trainings to mental health professionals, educators and administrators on bullying prevention, child abuse, domestic violence, stress management and critical incident stress debriefings. She provides workshops on topics which include bullying prevention, character education, trauma and stress.
